A lower-density construction speeds up flow rate, shortening contact time so the rich, smoky, and chocolatey qualities of a dark roast come through cleanly without over-extracted bitterness.

Where lighter papers would restrict flow and amplify bitterness, the Dark Roast paper gives water a faster path through the grounds, keeping the cup smooth and full-bodied without the harsh finish common to fast espresso-style extractions.
